Simon Fraser University's Chang Institute for Entrepreneurship and the Beedie School of Business are inviting thought leaders, emerging researchers and policymakers in academic entrepreneurship, innovation ecosystems, and science venture strategy to debate, discuss, propose action, and contribute to a white paper on how we can better enable impactful science innovation.
This event provides a valuable means of communication and exchange of ideas among academics, practitioners and business leaders. Along with the plenary talks and a debate on whether scientists should lead science-based ventures, we will have three parallel streams of academic papers: Innovation Policy, Firm Entrepreneurial Strategy and University Initiatives.
Due to COVID-19, we have transitioned the 2020 R&D Management Symposium to an online format. Due to decreased costs and generous supporting partners, we are now able to offer complimentary tickets to participants.

Keynote speaker Prof Scott Stern, of MIT Sloan School of Management, will draw on his research and MIT’s experience, both with their own innovation ecosystem and in studying and advising other regions, to give advice about strengthening our regional innovation ecosystem with universities playing a central role.
Keynote speaker Prof Ashish Arora, of Duke University, will address the changing role of multinational firms and large companies in innovation ecosystems, with less R&D and breakthrough research originating in these companies, and the growing roles of universities as the originators of impactful innovation.
Other plenary speakers and panelists of innovation leaders will be complemented by 3 parallel tracks of academic research presentations on the themes of innovation policy, firm entrepreneurial strategy, and innovation intermediaries. There also be opportunities for discussion and networking
